Easy Guitar Solo - Two That You Should Attempt

By Joss Schuyler

It is a good idea before one attempts to learn an easy guitar solo you find out more about what they are. A guitar solo is a piece of music which will be written purely to be played on either an electric or acoustic guitar. In many cases these pieces of music allow for some improvisation by the guitarist playing them such as you will see when they are incorporated into metal, rock, jazz or blues music.

A guitar solo can be a piece of music that is played solely on a guitar or there could be times when other instruments will accompany it. This is the type of solo that is used most often in rock music. Often you will find today that it is the lead guitarist in a rock band who will be given the role of playing any guitar solos in their songs.

Initially when you are just learning how to play the guitar learning a few easy guitar solos will be beneficial to you. There are plenty around but two which easily come to mind and that could help you on the road to becoming a great guitarist are shown below.

1. Sweet Child O'Mine by Guns N' Roses - If you have only been playing the guitar for a short time and never attempted to play a guitar solo before you may find this one a little difficult at the start. This is because that there is some string skipping for you to learn to deal with.

When you are first learning how to play this particular guitar solo then set up a metronome beside you when practising it. Instead of attempting to play this particular piece of music at the original tempo of 120 beats per minute slow it down using the metronome. Now spend as much time as you can practising this piece of music at the much slower tempo and then increase the tempo on the metronome as begin to feel more confident with the way in which you are playing it.

If you still find that after slowing the tempo down from the 120 beats per minute you are still finding it difficult to master this guitar solo slow it down even further. Thinking that you will be able to play this at the same speed as Slash of Guns N' Roses straight away is not going to happen. If you find you have difficulties playing it even at slow speed then when you attempt to play it at the right tempo will prove ever more difficult. Also you have to keep in mind that each note you play on this particular guitar solo is an eighth note so every note you play on makes up half a beat on a metronome.

2. Smells Like Teen Spirit By Nirvana - This has proven to be one of the most influential songs of all time and though the solo within it is very short it is perfectly suited to those who are just learning how to play the guitar. The reason for this being is that this particular easy guitar solo actually mimics the verse within the song.

You can attempt to play this particular easy guitar solo without using your little finger. However, for those who are only just learning how to play the guitar when practicing this one it is better to use your little finger. By doing this you will find it much easier to play the 8th fret note that happens when you move from the G to D string and then the D to A string. Also don't forget as you play this particular guitar solo you use your index finger so that you can also bend the 8th fret note. - 15485
