Using Vertical Lines to Look Thinner

By Tiffany Hart

As we roll into fall, the fashion season has changed. For most of us, this means trying to look a bit thinner and taller than we are. Whether you are a few pounds above what you want to be or a full figured woman, there are some basic tips to follow.

If you want to look taller and thinner, there are two areas that you need to focus on. The first is the type of clothes you wear. The second is the color of the clothes that go with your outfit. Here is a closer look.

There are many different ways of achieving a look when it comes to fashion. In our effort to look taller and thinner, we want to focus on one word. Verticality. The more vertical your look, the thinner and taller you will appear.

Our first step is to dress in a monochromatic outfit. This essentially means a base of one color. You can create subtle alterations by using shading of the color in question. That being said, tops and bottoms should be the same color.

You can then add color to the outfit by wearing a colored blazer or sweater over your shoulder. This brings a bit of color into the look, but maintains the vertical lines of the outfit, which maintain the taller and thinner look.

Another accessory that can really add to the look is a scarf. The scarf should be tied loosely around the neck and be long. Let it dangle. Again, it will emphasize the vertical lines of your outfit and enhance the thinning effect of the look.

As a full figured woman, I have a thing for large, thick belts. If you are the same way, keep in mind such belts conflict with efforts to look taller and thinner. They tend to draw attention and defeat the look. Go with something thin.

For many women, the thought of wearing a skirt when trying to look thinner is an iffy proposition. It can work. The key is to go with a bit of a longer skirt. Make sure to take an objective look in the mirror.

Topping off our outfit will be the shoes. Shoes can make or break a look. In this case, however, they can literally help us look taller. Yes, I am talking about high heels. Go has high and thin as you can.

Stripes are a word that can draw hisses from full figured women. In general, they do not make one look more petite. Certain outfits that have thinner vertical stripes, however, can. Horizontal stripes? Forget about them.

Unless you are a waif, you probably want to look taller and thinner. It really is not that hard if you follow these simple tips. - 15485
