Making Sense In The World Of Watches

By Ferda Shinsky

In our capital driven society, many people look to express their affluence in the accessories they choose. One of the easiest ways for men and women to enjoy the fine things in life is to purchase a wrist watch. There are many different styles and price ranges of watches, but one must be certain to look for quality over brand name or flashy appearances.

A few of us are fortunate enough to inherit exquisite time pieces from members of our family, but for the majority of us that is not the case. It's not a bad thing though; choosing a new watch is part of the fun!

Since quality is key in a wrist watch, you will want to look for the Chronometer Design certification. This qualification is given out by Swiss bureau of chronometer regulation (the COSC), and means that this watch has been tested and provides accurate time measurements.

Though quality is most important, another key factor in buying a watch is whether it is a quartz watch or an automatic watch. An automatic watch recharges itself using the energy produced when your body moves. These don't have a battery that has to be replaced. Unfortunately these watches require much more engineering and are more rare and expensive. A quartz watch has a battery that powers the watch, which will eventually have to be replaced. The upside of this is that they are more common and less expensive.

On the more extreme side, there are what are called sector watches. These are usually modern in design, and are designed for use in outdoor conditions. They are usually waterproof up to 100 meters, and are a favorite of divers, hikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.

If properly cared for, a luxury wrist watch can be passed down between generations, creating a valuable investment, as well as treasured memories. One must consider their current lifestyle and future plans before buying a wrist watch they intend to pass down, though.

To facilitate you more on which type of watches one should need to buy, you will consider their lifestyle as different brands of watches will match or fit different style for you. For instance, get a sector watch if you are a sport lover, but if you are a traditional man who just loves sophistication and elegance, a sector watch may not be a right one for you.

For those who enjoy gold watches or diamond watches and the bling that comes along with it, should look into getting a fancier watch. Many luxury watch stores carry the perfect, expensive gift, for you and your loved ones. It can really impress, if that is your style. - 15485
