Grout Restoration

By Rick Amorey

Grout is the first thing to spread and layer upon a surface when one wants to add tiling to a surface to a pool, a kitchen counter, or a bathroom floor. Grout is a type of cement that holds the tiles firmly in place. But it is necessary to keep it clean, as it easily gets dirty, or worse, infested with fungi.

But unfortunately, grout is very porous material, like a sponge. It is covered with tiny holes, which encourage foreign materials and objects such as algae, juice, stains or molds to be absorbed into it regularly. It gets pushed in deeper and deeper for every day that one neglects to clean it, and as time goes, becomes more and more difficult to clean once you actually do decide to clean it.

Indeed, cleaning the grout not only makes it look more pleasing to the eye, but it also keeps your home a safer place in general. I've seen my fair share of poorly maintained grout over the years, but let me tell you; 9 out 10 dirty grouts can be cleaned. If you just can't do it, chances are you can call up a professional who can.

So before you take drastic measures in the form of re-grouting, I advise you to contact a grout cleaner first. It only takes about a couple of hours, or double that for pools, to clean your grout, and the cost is very affordable. Only the most seriously ill-maintained of grout will need to be replaced, and even then, the grout cleaners can do it for you.

Professional grout cleaners can do the job pretty well and I personally recommend them. As it is their business to clean up grout, they will most likely have the tools and equipment necessary to do the job., and they'll have their own method of cleaning up. You'll be relieved to see your tiles looking great again. - 15485
