By Grant Wilkins

It is recommended that a sewing machine be serviced at least annually even if the machine has been sitting idle in a closet. Yet, there are some ninety million sewing machines in use.

Wow! That is a lot of sewing machines to service.

In addition to the obvious potential of saving hundreds of dollars by doing your own sewing machine services; there is great satisfaction too. Sewing machine technicians are honored professionals in high demand. Hobbyists enjoy great popularity among sewers and quilters.

While servicing a sewing machine is usually and easy task for the well trained, it can also be problematic to the untrained. There are hundreds of parts in a sewing machine that must all work together in perfect time and balance. Even slight variations can cause big problems. Learning the ins and outs of sewing machine repair can take years of struggle without proper guidance and support.
