Telecommuting - The High-Tech way to Earn a Living

By Jordan Dempsey

The information superhighway has certainly helped us in a lot of ways. It has made a milestone in the field of the business industry. Because of the internet, there are millions of people nowadays who prefer to work at home rather than going to a regular office day after day.

This fact has certainly provided enough opportunity for people to be employed even in the comfort of their own homes. Certainly, nobody would be thinking of being stuck in traffic again. That is why telecommuting, or earning from home, is one of the most popular jobs and careers that one can ever have.

But do not think that telecommuting does not involve the same stresses and strains that you get at the office. Although it is increasing in popularity, at the same time telecommuting presents many challenges as well. If you are one of those who want is or considering embarking in telecommuting, then bear these in mind.

Act professional - The world of telecommuting also requires everyone to have the professionalism expected from those who really work in physical business establishments. Deadlines, reports and estimates still have to be on time and presented in a professional manner.

Show enthusiasm An important point. Your employer will sometimes assume that because that they are not able to watch you at work, that you will not be 'pulling your weight' at home. They need to be reassured that you are as committed at work as you are at home.

Downplay telecommuting aspect - When applying for the job, don' give the impression that you are attracted mainly by the telecommuting aspect of the job. In fact, don' discuss it as the main part of the interview. Leave it as a question to the interviewee at the end.

Be flexible Be prepared to be more flexible when telecommuting epically when it comes to schedules. Whereas at work, you have a certain set of tasks to complete at by the end of the day, at home you may have to schedule work outside of office hours.

Be sure to show your employer that you will be willing to be flexible with irregular hours when telecommuting. Although you may never have to work many irregular hours at all, it is important to show you are there when needed.

Always remember that telecommuting is not the easiest of tasks. You will have to perform to the same high level that you do when you are at the office - perhaps even more so. But it can be very rewarding to work from the comfort of your own home. - 15485
