This question was puzzling me about two years ago.
The answer I found has completely changed my life in such a short amount of time that I would like to share it with you.
Something you should know first: there are two different things available for you: work from home and home based business. They are two absolutely different things.
When you are working from home, whether it is as a transcriptionist, medical coder or biller, or even a virtual assistant, you are still an employee. You still have to answer to a boss, meet their deadlines, follow their rules, and accept getting paid what they give you.
Another thing is a home based business. In this case you are becoming a business owner and your income potential increases, but you actually have to be involved in a decision-making process.
I won't be much help if you want to learn about working from home. However, if you want to learn about home-based businesses, I can help you out there.
In today's world Internet has become a great vehicle to market goods and services and has allowed a lot of businesses to reach larger customer groups.
And of course Internet marketers-the people who promote those goods and services wouldn't have jobs without the World Wide Web: Internet Marketers.
Keeping that in mind, the concept of home-based business often means Internet-based business nowadays.
But Internet businesses don't sell promises. They still have to have an actual product to sell in order to get the cash flowing and, if you're the marketer, that product still needs to be promoted.
This is where you have to choose what is it that you are most comfortable with, because options are endless.
The beauty of this kind of business is that your initial investment is incomparably small related to what we call "Brick-and-Mortar" business: you do not have to rent an office, hire employees, buy any tools or machinery, rent a warehouse, maintain inventory etc. Plus you get to reach millions and millions of people via the Internet, which makes it much easier to actually achieve measurable results in a timely manner.
The idea of Internet business is still young, not a lot of people have experience with them. When you're talking about Internet businesses, you're likely to run into a lot of disgusted people saying that they're all "scams" or "definitely too good to be true!" But your uncle Joe who has spent his life tinkering under the hoods of cars is bound to think that anything over the Internet is dangerous.
But a business is a business, whether it's an Internet venture or a corner grocery store. There will always be risks to everything you do and you stand as much chance of getting conned into buying something you don't want or need at your local department store as you do on the Internet-maybe more so. If somebody came up to you on the street and offered you a check for ten grand out of the goodness of his own heart, wouldn't you be a little suspicious?
The best way to protect yourself from getting fleeced anywhere is to find out all you can about a thing before committing to it. You wouldn't by a car because the dealer told you it would get sixty-miles to the gallon when the window sticker said it only got 20, would you? You'd look into the matter further, maybe check The Blue Book, right? Internet business opportunities should be no different. Get smart! Get educated!
As far as internet based business opportunities, look at following things:
- what is the product that you are going to market
- Is the product's worth visible to consumers?
- Is there a marketing framework already in place?
- is there a support or any kind of mentorship available
- How much profit do you stand to make of each individual item, twenty-cents per candy bar or $20,000 per cherry red convertible?
Answers to those questions should be readily available to you and will help you make the right decision for you.
You may be unfamiliar with Internet marketing now, but I can assure you that you'd be surprised by the number of people already doing it-and the money there making at it. Be sure it's right for you before you give it a try though.
I can't tell you that I'd investigated all the possible opportunities out there, but I stopped at one and haven't regretted it so far.
And when somebody gives you again one of those "It's a scam"-opinions, ask them if they would be able to provide you with the data that they used in order to make their conclusion, including names of business opportunities that they had joined, what kind of investment they had to make, what kind of steps they took and what kind of marketing strategy they used.
In most cases these people never tried anything other then going to work for the last ten - twenty years, never made more then $40,000 per year and their opinion is not a valid source of information by any means.
If you are actually interested in finding people from this industry, go to You Tube - there is a lot of us over there and we are open to the idea of sharing all the information we have about what we do.
One more time: home based business has changed lives for a lot of people, are you going to be one of them?
